L2TP is a much better design than PPTP but is also easily blocked by NAT. If users are behind NAT incoming port 4500 is required to establish communications. L2TP/IPSec runs with 256bit AES encryption over UDP port 500 or 4500.

Open VPN

Our OpenVPN service utilizes the professional Access Server version of the software. This means your installation will be a snap. OpenVPN runs with 1024 bit encryption for data communication over TCP Port 443. Users should use OpenVPN when security is a concern.

HTTP Proxy

Our HTTP Proxy service is configured on capable clients to forward traffic on an application level to our servers. This service was designed for use with consoles and users who do not wish to have full VPN access. HTTP Proxy runs with NO ENCRYPTION over port 443.

PPTP is generally regarded as poorly designed. It was one of the first, supported by the most hardware, and does do its job in most situations. But slow and easily blocked by home DSL/Cable routers. PPTP uses 128 bit encryption over 'GRE' Protocol #47

PPTP users will need to enable 'VPN Passthrough' and disable 'SPI' or 'Stateful Packet Inspection' in their cable/dsl router in most cases if there is a problem connecting. You can see our general instructions on how to do this in our Knowledge Base.
